This glaze falling off caused by age, quality or both? Origin and age?

This is a type of Western pottery called "spongeware".

Thanks Bill. What's the reason a layer of the glaze are peeling off? Is this by design or defect? What's the age of this pitcher?

You'd be better off asking a forum that deals in American pottery and Western glazes.
