Subject:color rabbit
Posted By: george w Thu, Nov 06, 2014 IP: 172.13.162.153

This rabbit looks old, instead of lovely to me. Somehow I feel it was from a tomb. The mark says "Made in the QianLong Reign". Is the mark real?

Thanks,
-George

no, this is new and decorative, not an antique despite the mark

Thanks for the response, rat. What's your rational for the "freshly made" conclusion? quality of the work? dirty-looking? no wearing out sign? Regards, -George

Sorry, it's not straight from the factory but it's quite similar to other decorative objects and lamps made over the past couple of decades in China. The wear and dirt is not consistent with burial but just general shabby treatment and relatively low quality materials. White rabbits are not part of traditional Chinese symbolism (the best known exception is Leng Mei's painting in the Palace Museum Beijing: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_mNvhfjwQqc8/S7f5pF-nC_I/AAAAAAAACXs/xm6D_u90qyc/s1600/Two_Rabbits_under_Chinese_Parasol_Tree_by_Leng_Mei.jpg)
