Subject:Attempting to identify modern ink wash artists
Posted By: JayC Wed, Dec 03, 2014 IP: 24.178.232.241

Hello and thank you for any help you can give.

I bought these two ink and wash illustrations because they are, to me, exceptional. They are obviously modern, (probably the 1960s), and not very large, (the longest image side on each of the paintings is less than 12"). It may be impossible to identify the artists but I thought someone here might recognize the work.

Again, thank you!

Here are a couple more close-ups.

not by well-known artists. The landscape has the seal 歐 "Ou", which is unusual on its own, normally appearing in Chinese names as part of the surname Ouyang, which doesn't seem to be the case here. Alone, the character refers variously to Europe, to vomiting, or to singing. The inscription is again the the Ou character followed perhaps by 文. Together the two characters are perhaps meant to be Chinese pronunciation for the English name "Owen".

The bamboo has the seal 福 fu "good fortune", the inscription is a rather unbalanced-looking 清香 "sweet scent".

Thank you "rat"!

I appreciate that the artists may not be well known but after reviewing other ink paintings, (some by well known artists), I was really impressed by the works and decided to buy them. I was a buyer of commercial art and photography for 30 years and I have a real understanding of what I can't do and, even if I could, I would never have the patience to do it...and mastering ink painting is one of those things. They're beautiful.

Again, thank you for the information!
