Subject:Kakiemon style vases
Posted By: GerryG Tue, Dec 09, 2014 IP: 159.134.212.34

I would appreciate any additional information given on the two vases which appear to me to be Arita ware in kakiemon style. It's pretty obvious to see they have some age, some crackle to the glaze indication maybe of different contraction rates between porcelain and glaze. Porcelain in very white and the glaze is clear. Enamels are underglaze red and rest is over glaze. Some gold gilt has been applied to depict clouds? Base is unglazed and looks like they have been brushed with close fine lines as a finish. The bodies are subtly divided into four panels. They seem to be reasonably fine in potting then again I've never handled Kakiemon style porcelain before. There seems to be a number of inscriptions on each vase, I suppose Kanji but I'm not sure. They are about 8 inches in height. I look forward to your comments

Sorry, the vase is nowhere near the quality or style of Kakiemon!

Hi Claus, thanks for your reply. I appreciate these vases have not been produced by anyone directly from the Kakiemon Dynasty though I think I am right in saying they are in the style of Kakiemon. I know they have some age but what I am trying to is where they are from, (I think Japan) , approximately what age they might be and if any one can interpret the inscriptions which I think are kangi though I am not sure.

Regards,

Gerry
