Posted By: Aarre Sun, Dec 28, 2014 IP: 89.166.76.48

Gilt bronze bowl Tang Dynasty style, is shown in the photo engraved with animal and bird motifs, on top of them is attached to the beads 20. Is this a symbolic Buddhis or Islam?

Where can I ask more about that?

I suspect Buddhist (the basic form is of a lotus blossom), but transmitted via Sassanian artwork or other Central Asian art rather than direct from India. See the gold bowl found in the Hejiacun hoard and the publications cited in the notes to this lot; there are a number of works on Chinese gold and silver as well as the influence of Central Asian metalwork on Tang styles now.

Dear rat, warm thank you for your comment and a link to that publication, it's intresting to know why the beads are attached to the top of the animal figures, (animal / bird legs and the head is partially visible)I think they are attached to maybe later after manufacture, but why? ;)

not sure what you mean by beads, do you mean the colored stones? I assume they are meant to be semi-precious stones/gems but don't know what in particular they signify.

These stones are made of glass and its composition is the same as the early history of the glass,it is just interesting why the stones are mounted on top of the animal and bird figures, I think that they have a religious significance because they are just 20 pieces, including Chinese Sasanian style fabric works repeat the same pattern 20
pieces
Hi..sorry for my poor articulation.

More information about the bowl, I made a big mistake when buying a bowl of years ago, because it was sold to me a bronze bowl! However, my interest was awakened and I will take it to the test and the big surprise was that the bowl is only gold, copper and silver are combined! Bowl color indicates the quantities of material. Now I'm really happy!
