I'm getting the impression that this forum should be called Asian OLD art forum as this seems to be the main priority...regardless of the beauty of the piece and skill of the carver.... I have plenty lovely but modern Chinese pieces in my collection... and in my humble opinion this particular jade is well carved and beautiful! So what you are really saying is that it just looks too good to be true!:0) ...I do appreciate all of your comments however and I am learning loads so please keep them coming!!!

While I did understand your frustrations especially when you heard negative opinions on jade pieces that you believe are beautiful but for you to say "this forum should be called Asian OLD art forum" is a bit unfair. I totally agree with you that not only "old" jade piece are beautiful but some of the "modern" piece are indeed very beautiful. I had seen a lot of beautiful modern jade piece and how I wish I could own a piece but most of them were too expensive for me to buy unless I would take out a second mortgage on my house.

You have to understand one very important thing regarding jade, whether it was at ancient time or in modern time, to have "carved" a piece of beautiful jade piece with quality material was never cheap. Even now, trying to obtain a quality piece of Hetian jade stone can be both time consuming and costly. Then the carver, if he/she is indeed good, would spend 2-3 years on it. Therefore even if the piece would be sold for thousands of dollars, the carver would actually be paid for very little for all of his labor cost and material cost.

Therefore, how can one obtain any beautiful jade pieces that was made in quality material cheaply, whether at ancient time or today? Of course, unless one is so lucky like my friend who believes he had accumulated a collection of archaic and Neolithic jades that is worth half a million US dollars by spending about 20-30k on the purchase of them. He hardly spent anything on jade books either because be believes he had learned everything on jade by studying the jade pieces he bought. I do not want to burst his bubble since he is so happy and proud with his jade collection, even wrote a book about them and loaned it to the art center of his city for exhibitions.

Please understand that is absolutely nothing wrong in your loving and enjoying of your jade pieces, whether they are old or modern. All of us jade lovers share your joy and love of jade.
But you comment "So what you are really saying is that it just looks too good to be true" just does not make any senses. I do not believe that is indeed what most of us were trying to say. Please read my comments regarding your piece on your other thread. No pun intended. Super
