Subject:Chinese Rose Porcelain Dish Signed Help!
Posted By: John Sat, Jan 31, 2015 IP: 24.44.45.107 Can anyone help me identify the below Chinese porcelain dish and or artist? I purchased them in a pair. It is signed twice as in pictures. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time in this matter. John |

Posted By: rat Mon, Feb 02, 2015 This is signed as being by Yu Ziming and supposedly dated 1887 丁亥, but there are a wide array of objects signed by Ziming and almost no two signatures look alike, so I'd discount the possibility that this is a genuine example of his work. It's possible these date from the Republic but that's not a sure thing either, I'd get some better advice on that than I can offer, as these items are commonly imitated today because until recently they were fairly affordable ceramics. The characters in red are meant to recall inscriptions on archaic bronzes, this one meaning something along the lines of "may this be treasured and used forever" |
