Subject:Help Authenticating Blue & White Guan Yin with Jiajing mark
Posted By: Absilon Wed, Feb 18, 2015 IP: 47.22.26.194 I picked up this huge 32 inch tall Chinese Blue and White Porcelain Guan Yin statue from an estate of a collector. I would like to get some help authenticating this piece. |

Posted By: Bill H Fri, Feb 20, 2015 The base is finished off like a slip-casting, which technique is identified largely with early 20th century and later Chinese ceramic figurines. Any kiln product found with that much greasy looking dirt on it, especially a religious figure such as Guanyin, typically is a late 20th century product trying to look older. The six-character Ming mark of the Jiajing reign (1522-1566) on this one doesn't compare well to other authenticated marks I've seen of that period, wherein the Ming and Jing characters usually have radicals that aren't written as large as these are. |
