Subject:Surprise discovery

Hi all,

Completely new here, as well as with asian art in general. I come requesting your help identifying something.

I stumbled upon some asian drawing/painting that seems quite old, and I'd like to know what I'm dealing with here. Years ago I bought a frame with a picture in it at a yard sale. The picture seemed funny to me, and it's why I bought it. Now the other day I took off the picture from the frame and found some drawing/painting that seemed to have been hidden in between the picture and the backboard.
Just want to know general information about it.

Dated with a cyclical year most likely corresponding with 1954, by someone calling themselves Dizi. I'm afraid I can't make out much of the seal but expect that has more to with the selling establishment. The artist would have applied his/her seal to the painting surface.

Also new, so just speculation. Could Dizi be a painting title? When I googled it, seemed to be a musical instrument. Also, saw references to tradition of Chinese landscape painting called mountain water painting.

"Mountain water painting" is the literal translation of 山水画, and idiomatically is the term for "landscape painting". 迪子 is either the artist's given name or, more likely, a nickname. There was a Song painter named Li Di, and this painter could be saying that he is a disciple (子) of Li Di, but that's really speculative. This picture is probably meant for the tourist market, and has no stylistic relevance to Li Di's works. 笛子 are the characters for the (horizontal) bamboo flute.
