Subject:Please help translate date or artist marks
Posted By: Abe Gadley Fri, Mar 20, 2015 IP: 172.56.32.135 I have a large vase that has this on the base. I am trying to find out what the marks say. If you could please help, I would be grateful. |

The best route to that first step would be additional pictures of the entire piece and a shot like you have of the markings, but in precise focus. |

Posted By: Bill H Wed, Mar 25, 2015 While I can't say whether this celadon vase is Chinese or not, I'll use readings in Mandarin to explain what I see in the mark. The two bold characters read down as "Xiang Lin" (香林), literally "Fragrant Forest". I believe the upper red seal reads down and across from the top right partially as "Xuan Wen Yan [?]" (宣文演?). I can't fathom the last character. The lower red seal simply repeats the "Xiang Lin" characters. |
