Subject:Satsuma Vase help... Please
Posted By: John Tue, Mar 31, 2015 IP: 24.44.45.107 Can anyone help me with identifying the pictured Satsuma vase, artist, age and or any other information? It is about 9" tall and has a stamp imprinted on the base. You can only see partial imprint of the stamp on the base. Any help will be greatly appreciated. |

Posted By: Guy Wed, Apr 01, 2015 This is not Satsuma but probably Meiji era Seto ware. The impressed mark, shown upside down, reads 'Gosuke sei'(五助製 - made by Gosuke). |

Posted By: Bill H Fri, Apr 03, 2015 I would think the value of this vase would depend on overall condition and pinning the mark down to a specific generation of the potters who may have used it. Ranking not too far behind Hirado, I believe the Seto kilns produced some of the better true porcelains made in Japan during the Meiji period. |
