Subject:Wooden Gong stand? Edo period?
Posted By: Clayton Lambert Tue, Apr 21, 2015 IP: 107.77.68.51

Hi everyone, I just found this piece in Indiana. I bought it due to the detail of the gilted panels and the quality of the hand cut mortise tenon joinery, Not really knowing what it was. I've come to believe it is a gong stand from the late edo period, with the symbol of the Tokugawa shogunate on it, as well as a very detailed and pretty embossed golden Phoenix, and maple trees on reverse..but am not sure beyond that. Can anyone say anything as to what it is and it's age and authenticity?
