Subject:REPOST: Porcelain Artist Help Please
Posted By: John Wed, May 13, 2015 IP: 24.44.45.107 I recently purchased the pictured Chinese porcelain fan which I believe was painted by the artist Liu Yucen in the Jiazi Year 1924. I am not sure if I am correct. If anyone can tell me if in fact I am correct and or any other information on the piece, I would greatly appreciate that. Thank you in advance. |

Posted By: Bill H Thu, May 14, 2015 The inscription purports this fan plaque to be by Liu as you surmise, but the quality of the painting and other clues tell a different story. This appears to be a 1970's or later fabrication. Liu was part of the famed 'Eight Friends of Zhushan' group of Jingdezhen porcelain painters, thus well known during his time (1904-1969). This notoriety spawned many modern copies and outright fakes of works with his forged signature. One clue revealing the fakester's hand in this case is what I perceive to be the artificially dirtied back of the plaque. |
