Posted By: Marci Gabriel Wed, May 27, 2015 IP: 76.247.216.129

This was my grandparents and I don't know much about it except it's made of pewter and the handle is Jade. Inside is a different material with a stamp.

Yes, this is mid 19th century Chinese teapot made in Yixing.

The earthenware teapot is made (impressed seal inside is maker) then covered with pewter, fitted with (crudely) carved jade handle and spout.

The pewter is then engraved with poem, decoration.

Perform an Internet search for Yixing Pewter teapot to see many more like this.

Attractive, the stamp is upside down in your photo but reads as 杨彭年製, made by Yang Pengnian, but whether it's genuine or imitation is not something I can tell you. Yang was an Yixing potter active during the Qing Jiaqing reign period (before 1820) but I would imagine the pewter teapots were made by his workshop thereafter. If you run 杨彭年锡 through Google Images you will see a bunch of similar teapots attributed to or by him/his workshop.

Thank you so much for the information. It is genuine. And beautiful. It was a wedding present. Thank you again!
