Subject:Help identifying carved ducks
Posted By: Darla Thu, Jun 04, 2015 IP: 108.69.218.75

Hello, Please help me identify these beautiful carved ducks. They were sold to me as older pieces and called jadeite, I wanted to see if its possible to verify this by the pictures I am attaching. Please let me know if you can.

Thanks so much,
Darla

It would be nice to see sharper pictures posted.
From what I can see..it could be Nephrite. A close- up of a brown area would also be helpful.

Thank you for your reply. I tried to add better pictures at a different angle. These were sold to me as jadeite, I wanted to make sure and see if these are good quality jade carvings.

Thanks for your help

This is a very tough one because the color and texture of the material is unlike anything I had seen. The inside color of the right duck may be green and resembles a bit of jadeite. Yet a total lack of luster on either of the ducks is truly baffling. Without doing a scratch test and/or specific gravity (density) test it would be difficult to say what it may be.

Thank You! I'm a bit confused too. The scratch tests does verify it's Jade, but I don't believe it's jadeite.

As usual, this all started out with poor quality photos. How about taking SHARP pictures outdoors, but not in sunlight! That way the material looks more the real color. Also using a tripod or mono-pod helps greatly
Thanks,
Ernest

Thank you for your help. I am a bit confused by it too. I purchased it from a well known auction in my city, they had it listed as Jadeite, but I didn't think it was either.
