I wonder what is the chinese writing on the left side and if there is any interesting indication about this work of art? "A black cat

The seal includes the artist's name, Guo Dawei (郭大维), which would make the two characters on the left side the artist's given name Dawei. The letters between the calligraphy and seal are "Kwo", an alternate romanization of the artist's surname, which led me immediately a 2011 Live Auctioneers listing for this print/picture.

Kwo Da-wei also wrote a book on Chinese brush technique that people interested in paintings here may find useful to read.

Nice pull on the auction reference rat, otherwise from the fuzzy photos at least, it looks like an original.

I suppose the obvious conclusion is that someone has cut the print down in order to remove all of the typeset printed information.

Whether it was done to make it look like an original, or perhaps to remove some type of damage is impossible to say, but considering that the cropping of the signature coincides with the uppermost typeset printed information which was a copyright mark and the initials K.A.S. (Kwo Art Studio), I am leaning towards the former.

I'm curious if cutting it down and removing the printed artist information has reduced the value of the print? Probably not, it is still a nice cat print and people love their cat art.

Cheers, and great detective work rat.

Gman
