Subject:金世权 Jin Shiquan Bottle Drawing & 3 Examples

In a book about Chinese cloisonne artist Jin Shiquan is shown what I assume is a sketch of his, as I am illiterate in Chinese and cannot read the caption.

Three similar bottles from various auctions are shown in the composite pictures. The ones in the center and on right seem to more closely match the drawing, although none of them display the drawing's more artist arrangement of the small floral motifs.

The bottle on the left was reported to have been purchased in the 1960s in Seattle, Washington. Note that there was an embargo on Chinese imports into the US from 1950-1971 (that's official retail and wholesale imports, not personal items brought into the US).

If anyone would be so kind as to translate the picture's caption, that would certainly be helpful.

The craftsmanship on the bottles doesn't seem all that tidy to me, and the spiral diaper seems unusual. Do they really date from the sixties, as early products of the Beijing Enamel Company? Or are they knock-offs from the village workshops? Or are they recent copies based upon the sketch in the book?

Jin Shiquan retired in 1984, and died in 1992.

The caption simply reads: "Jin Shiquan's copy of a cloisonne form and patterning". The drawing includes the dimensions of the object and labels it as a Qianlong piece.

Perhaps he saw it there? Or possibly it was on exhibit somewhere in Beijing...

I think I may have to find someone local who can translate Chinese - it is too aggravating, having 3 books now that I'm unable to read and can only look at the pictures. Tsk!

I hope you did not mean you were trying to find somebody who would translate 3 Chinese books for you. That is a very big task and not any one can or would want to do it.

I am merely reluctant to impose upon Forum members for translation tasks, although so far they have been extremely gracious and helpful.
