Subject:Are these Chinese paintings worth the money?
Posted By: Brett Sun, Aug 16, 2015 IP: 69.119.204.46

I was at an upscale estate sale and the woman had a bunch of Chinese antiques that were passed down in her family through the generations. Some of the painting were really nice but they were also expensive. I took pictures of my favorite 3. I have a few questions: 1) who are the artists 2.) how old are they? 3.) are these worth the money for resale or does she have them priced at retail price. The photo of the horse is $1800 USD, the one with 100 boys was $250, and the other one is $700 I believe. Thanks for all the help.

1. The 100 boys. Looks the title and signature like it was done with cheap bottled ink by the way the ink has run during mounting. Good quality ink or ink ground on an inkstone will not behave like this.

2. The horse. Badly mounted, all wrinkles. Good quality paintings are never presented like this. If it is not worth proper mounting, it is unlikely to be worth so much money.

3. The pandas. This is dated 丙寅 which equates to 1926 or 1986. By the style and subject, I suggest the later date.

4. The girl. No particular comment!

à chacun son goût!

Terrible, tacky things; poorly framed and badly painted. The girl is particularly awful, and the horse belongs in a kindy--sorry my friend--away to the dump with them
