Subject:Yixing Tea Set, but marked with "Made in China"
Posted By: Jaff Tue, Sep 22, 2015 IP: 199.133.24.252

I have what I think is a Yixing Tea Set, but on the bottom of the tea pot and tea cups, it is marked with "Made in China" and not with the kinds of chop marks I usually see on other tea pots. However, the calligraphy/artwork on the pot seems authentic. Please take a look at the pictures and let me know what to make of this set.

Your photos are too small to read anything, but there is no reason to think the writing is not an actual poem.

This is a set for export to the West, for coffee rather than for tea, given the interior enamels, the large pitcher for milk/cream and sugar 'bowl'.

Yixing tea ware is made with no interior glazing so that the tea will soak into the ware. There is a belief that eventually one can brew tea in the pot alone without actually adding tea.

The set is 20th century, probably made rather recently. One cup/saucer may be missing.
