Subject:Chinese famille-rose porceline vase with phoenix
Posted By: Shelley Leonard Fri, Oct 30, 2015 IP: 207.118.14.133

This is one of a few pieces my mother collected. It came with a certificate of antiquity from the Antique Arts Association, Hong Kong. The date sticker on the bottom was from the seller the bought it from. The vase is pictured in the far left front corner of the certificate photo. It is 7 inches tall. Does anyone know more about this vase, such as the age? The dates are different on the sticker than the certificate. What does the bottom mark say? Thank You very much for any information!

This is a fantasy mark and reads top down and right to left: Yong Sheng Period Make. The Yongsheng reign in the Qing dynasty lasted from 1723 to 1735.

Does a fantasy mark mean the vase is not actually from the Yongzheng period?

The references I have show only two stack six character marks (with 'Great Qing') for Yongzheng reign.

You do not say what the "certificate of antiquity" said.

Be aware that there have been many sellers, online and otherwise, that print up worthless certificates that say what buyers would like to hear.

Your vase does not have "famille-rose" decoration, which refers to use of rose-pink enamels made from colloidal gold. An internet search will show you some actual examples.

Consider the 4-character mark on the bottom of your vase to be part of the decoration.

Pieces with genuine Yongzheng reign marks also can be found with an internet search. You can find some extremely high-quality porcelains quite different in decorative style from your vase.
