John,

Being a novice, what makes you feel it is a modern copy? How old do you feel the piece is?

Thank you for your time and help.

John

Simple:experience... I have been collecting jizhou ware for more than 15 years, before those modern copies reach the market, when very few books on jizhou ware were available... then the market started to grow bigger, prices up, real jizhou ware fewer and fewer, good copies starting to flood the market. I only have a few pieces left but one of my good friend managed to collect more than 300 pieces from that period.

so back to your jizhou vase, it is recent from a kilometer away... colors and aging looks weird, bottom and mouth too... but what really disqualify it from being a good copy is the drawing on your vase... carefully drawned to look like ancient drawing, while real ancient jizhou ware were made by artists that would not spend more than few seconds to draw it... (I am talking of the animal drawing not the decoration that would take more time and precise work). The result would be a very cursive Style drawing not like the one on your vase...

At last I would like to advise you to be extra carefull when buying jizhou ware since best copies (not like yours) can be really tricky to spotout even for professional...

Pipane.

Thank you very much for your time and expertise. It is greatly appreciated.

Being a novice in jizhou ware and seeing the pictures you have shown me, I can now see the difference.

Thank you again.

John
