Subject:Old Chinese miniature vase
Posted By: Aarre Tue, Jan 19, 2016 IP: 89.166.46.175

Hello everybody! Can you to identify this small Chinese vase, if I correctly guess it also has a special name, I bought it in 1976 from Singapore.

Thanks Aarre

Most probably a real antique chinese Song/Yuan dynasty "qingbai" ceramic vase, overall damage on glaze surface, body and neck, lips... thus worthless. As good advice to new collectors (beside study value for collectors and archeologists) I like to remind them that antique "garbage" is still garbage... (please understand I do not intend to hurt your feelings by using those words).

Best regards,
P.

Thank you for your comment, these are very rare items and are not often available, fully undamaged is to find good luck, and then the price is in the thousands.
Timing is I too will the Song dynasty qianbai, but is this the 'marco polo' ware?

Best regards and Thanks, Aarre

You're referring to "blanc de chine" ware, Dehua ware in fact...

No it is not, Dehua is white glaze some times slightly yellowish, yours shows light sky blue glaze colour... Dehua was only produced starting from Ming dynasty, much later. interestingly enough Dehua ware was not produced at the time Marco Polo was in China...
Production area is also completely different. Fujian vs. Jiangxi...

Thank you for your comment, but I had already been informed of this miniature vase is Dehuan kiln production by song dynasty, refer to kindly Hunan Provincial Museum website.
Below is a link to the museum's website.

Best regards, Aarre

I still have doubt about that, I can't tell from pictures, in particular low resolution ones... but if an good expert who handled it told you it was Dehua, he should know better.
However Dehua glaze is not supposed to be translucent, while qingbai is. I never handled song Dehua myself. I wouldn't tell. The picture from the website you mention is clearly Dehua ceramic, glaze doesn't look like yours. do you have more information about yours?

Always interesting to dig into ceramic provenance...
regards,
P.
