Posted By: Aarre Mon, Jan 25, 2016 IP: 89.166.46.175

Hello, I have this rare Chinese white small bowl where the exterior is perhaps the lotus flower pattern, can you help identify and timing, perhaps the Song dynasty 'Qingbai' and whether it would Dehua production?
Bowl size: Height:54.0 mm, Diameter:98.0mm

Thanks,
Aarre

不应该是德化窑,因为德化窑是白瓷。从碗型和纹饰,和照片的颜色,应该属于北宋早期越窑青瓷系特征

Hello sir,

Looking at your bowl from low resolution picture (witch is a difficult exercice) according to its shape, this bowl should be northern Song dynasty, it should not be dehua ware, because dehua is white glaze ceramic, according to it shape, bottom and ornemental floor decoration it should most probably be a early Yueyao white glaze bowl from Norther Song dynasty. Yueyao ware often present crackles like this.

Best regards,
P.

Dear Pipane, thank you for your comment, yes you have the potential presented by the case, but maybe this could also be a 5 dynastys Ding ware, it would be a pleasure to have academic research or good literature from this period, as Tang to Song Dynasty is my favorite hobby.

Best degards,
Aarre

Dear Aarre,

Thank you for your reply...

No Problem, this happends very often. People are not always happy with authentication result.

Then, I would recommand you to have your picture sent to Sotheby's or any major auction house with an Asian ceramic départment...it is free of charge.

To be sure let's make a point or two:

.This is not my hobby, this is my work, and I don't work alone, I have associates and many experts in my professional network.(I live and work in China, specialize in Song ceramic and archaic jades).

.Because of our previous ceramic discussion and divergent opinion, I had your ceramic authenticate not by one but two fellow spécialists...this is not "my opinion on your bowl";

.ding ware don't present cracks, ding foot ring and grain texture is not like yours...

.your bowl shape is consitent with northern Song period.

Major Northern Song kiln were located in north China where I live, there is a lot of damaged ceramic unhearthed in this area...this give us numerous oportunities to study first hand samples of these ceramics...

You can also have high definition pictures of your ceramics sent directly to my mailbox ([email protected]), it will be a pleasure to have them look over by local specialists. This is free of charge.

Best regards,

P.

Dear Aarre,

Sorry for acting rude in my last post.

Having time to check internet thoroughly I came across this northern Song "qing" (deep green glaze) "yue" bowl (witch is more common than white glaze among Yue ceramics).

It is pretty close from yours from glaze aspect and soil stain, althrougt this one glaze looks thicker than yours, notice glaze surface cracks, a Yueyao particular feature.

Your bowl is quite rare and interesting...

Complete descriptive name of this bowl would be:

“北宋代早期越窑白釉暗刻花瓣纹碗“

"Early northern Song dynasty "Yue" white glaze petals carved (molded?) Bowl".

Good pick.

Best regards,
P.
