Subject:Copper Phurba with bent point
Posted By: Gakusei Thu, Jan 28, 2016 IP: 85.16.231.77

I have bought this phurba (phurpa, phurbu, phurpu) most likely made of copper recently in Singapore in a flea market. It stuck among other items in a vessel filled with sand.
The length is 17 cm and the weight is 296 grams.
I was fascinated by the craftmanship. It looks as if the copper metal was carved like wood. I hope it can be clearly seen on the pictures.
What is puzzling me is the bent point. This must be the original condition IMHO but I cannot find a similar phurba on Web sites, however.
May I kindly ask for opinions in our forum. Any comment is most welcome.

Dear Gakusei,
I 've never seen a phuba with a bent point. My opinion is it is a violent shock that caused it,though the bent is strangely just in the"right" direction if you consider the position of the mouth of the makara.
Best regards,
Rémy

Dear Rémy,
thank you very much for your reply. However, what is the "right" direction? Looking from the mouth of the makara the tip is bent to the right side.

Do any other thoughts have turned up in your mind when you have viewed the pic?

Kind regards,
Gakusei

Dear Gakusei,
You're right for the direction of the bent(looking from the mouth of the makara):I was wrong because I looked at your photos not long enough!
Beside I have the feeling your phurba is not very old.
I am "specialized"in Tibetan art and I'd be glad to help you again(more efficiently!)
