Posted By: Bill H Wed, Feb 03, 2016 Your picture was woven on a Jacquard loom and possibly hand-colored. Here's the link to an eBay listing for the same crucifixion scene in black and white, dated by the seller to the 1880s. The Jacquard loom dates to 1801, according to Wikipedia. |

Posted By: Bill H Thu, Feb 04, 2016 Hmmm, sounds like an early Republic of China businessman might have gone out and bought himself a turnkey weaving factory with a box full of "All-Time Greatest Hits" among loom pattern cards of recent decades. |

Posted By: Scott Thu, Feb 04, 2016 Thank you both for help! Yes, it does appear to have been hand tinted or colored after weaving. The other ones I'm seeing now, state they are French- this is obviously not, as it hAs the Chinese characters on the border. Any idea what else the characters say? (Besides Republic of China?) |
