Subject:Carved disks

What were these disks used for? Were they just decorative or did they have particular significance in ?Chinese culture.

Depending on size, these pieces could have served as finials on a late 19th-early 20th century electric lamps. They would have been soldered by a flexible metal band or wires to the threaded metal attachment used to screw them down to the harp. If they're actually made of jadestone of any quality, as opposed to glass or a softer stone, they would be worth more nowadays as jewelry than lamp finials. Others I've seen with the metal hardware attached have measured about 2-2.5 inches in diameter. Of course, jade carvings in this size are frequently found as pendants on a necklace.

Best regards,

Bill H.

Thanks Bill,
I had never heard of "lamp finials", but they do fit the bill. They are approximately 2 inches diameter and made of some sort of stone, but I don't think either is jade. I will hang them on my office wall,
Cheers,Gary
