Subject:Exceptional wood carving

Do not know much about this piece other that the carving is from museum qualify!
Any info would be appreciated, about the age and provenance

The piece is 2 feet high and very heavy wood.

Your carving looks to be from Bali, in Indonesia, and depicts the Hindu God Vishnu riding his subordinate Bird-Man deity Garuda. The statues are rather common fare in tourist shops on the island, which is noted for its excellent woodcarvers.

I have one of these Vishnu & Garuda carvings myself, but a bit smaller than this one.
