Subject:info on bronze buddha
Posted By: Marc Teunissen Sun, Dec 06, 2009 IP: 85.146.176.28

I recently bought this bronze partly gilded Buddha in an aution. It'32cm high and it was described as an 18th century Buddha from Cambodia.
I realy would like to know more about this Biddha. So any kind of information is very much welcome.

These, Buddhas on high. tiered bases are usually Thai or Burmese, late 18th-19th centuryI. I would probably say Burmese or somewhere on the Burmese/Thai border; the inlaid stones appear to be low quality jade. Please, bear in mind that this judgement is purely looking at the style of pedestal, which became quite ornate in the 19th century.

Search "Rattanakosin Thai Buddha"

Thanks Geoff for your opinion. I agree that it's probably late 18th or early 19th century. And the lotusthrone looks very much Rattanakosin . But the Buddha itself stays a bit of a mistery. Haven't seen a similar one on the net. Someone suggested it even could be Cambodian or Laotian.
