Subject:kangxi replica ?

Hello,


I just share with you my latest acquisition and ask your opinion.


Here I bought a few days ago in a small auction room of an estate of an old French family rich.

This plate was sold for just a Chinese dish 19 th worthless.



It measures 29 cm in diameter


I don't pretend that it is genuine. I think however that from a family person aged positive I don't think it was purchased on ALIBABA.com


I await your opinion even if it's to tell me that it was manufactured there is 1 month.

The potter, painter and calligrapher would all have had to work a lot harder for this dish to be called a replica of just about anything from the Kangxi period. Probably was meant to resemble "doucai" (the contending colors), but these enamels are much harsher than the period palette.

Here's a 3.5 inches-diameter Kangxi period bowl with dragon & phoenix scroll and apocryphal Chenghua six-character mark for comparison. Note the very transparent colors.

I completely agree with your answer that the idea of the artist wanted to approach the doucai tones in the style of Ming .

My presentation and my title is pretty basic but I prefer to give a brief presentation and have direct advice than be accused of esayer to claim that it is a true imperial KANGXI.




I noticed several things

the present flat ligther of irregularities on its outline so it is not a perfect circle.


It has many faults cooking as you can see from the pictures.


Concerning the actual execution of the Mark Kangxi you see significant inconsistencies ? the blue circle may be ?

This dish has it been executed in 19 th century or after republic, modern possibly 18th ?

I should add that this dish could have been made around the mid-20th century, circa 1930s-1960s,judging by the glazing and firing characteristics.

I wouldnt even put this to the republic era, at most this plate is 10 years old and that is being generous.

Your dish is not a "replica" of anything old.

It is an attempt to use the doucai technique for the chosen motifs, but does not directly imitate anything else.

A friend told me this dish is quite intriguing and the decor is inspired by " Doucai prototype " of the Ming Dynasty Wanli


He think the painter was inspired porcelain prototypes of that time.


if someone luckily this book "Enamelled Ware of the Ming Dynasty, Book I, Hong Kong 1966", in his collection and he sees a porcelain with a similar decor with dark colors I really grateful .
