Subject:Artists Identification Help please, TIAN SHIGUANG ?
Posted By: terry Mon, Aug 01, 2016 IP: 94.9.26.225

Hi all,
Here to ask for your help again please.
I have this piece which I bought a book called "The Gongbi Flower Paintings Book" because it matches the seals on some of my art collection, this piece is either by Tian Shiguang(田世光), Yu Zhizhen(俞致贞), Yu Feian(于非闇)
I cannot tell as the whole book is in Chinese but it has lots of pictures of these 3 artists works, can someone please identify this seal for me. Many Thanks

The seal reads 世光所印 "seal of Shiguang", so this is supposed to be Tian Shiguang's work.

Many thanks for the translation, Im not 100% certain but im trying to find out how genuine they are, I have 5 pieces by Shiguang, ive just managed to get two different books and one im still waiting for with lots of his gongbi paintings as a reference, I must admit at first glance you think they are quite amateur but as you look closely you can see the skill used to do a gongbi style painting, he must of done many pieces over his time so I imagine quality may differ also, on another forum someone thinks these may be some of his earlier works.

Thanks for your message, I will go take a look. There aren't any good fora for Chinese painting that I know of, would love to be informed differently. Gotheborg.com has a great discussion forum for primarily Chinese but also Japanese ceramics. There's a bit of painting too but not much interest outside a handful of participants.
