Subject:Japanese Satsuma Marks

Hi this is the first piece of Satsuma wear I have Bought and I have been researching the marks. So far I think I have the Shimazu Family Meji period 1886-1912, Great Japan origin. The symbol for school and round object or the number 5. Please could anyone tell me more as I have come to a stop. Thanks. This is very interesting.

I can't identify the mark, but the "Dai Nippon" marks were used principally in the Meiji period. However, the decoration is not great and the potting crude, so I would think perhaps mid 20th Century. The metal lid also is not original and was probably added in the United States or Europe.

Hi,

The mark is: Gyokushu Ga - Satsuma Yaki - Dai Nippon (Made by Gyokushu - Satsuma ware - Great Japan) 玉秀画 - 薩广焼 - 大日本.
Some auction sides use the name Tamahide instead of Gyokushu, which is the (incorrect?) translation by the Google translator.

Sorry, made a little mistake. Gyokushu Ga = Painted by Gyokushu.
