Subject:Carved figure
Posted By: Evan S Fri, Sep 09, 2016 IP: 70.195.1.133

I found this figure. It measures approximately 9 inches tall and I was told it was made of boxwood and was Chinese. The way the boy is dressed appears to me to be too western to be Chinese but I don't know. Any help would be great.

Judging from the attire and hair style of the youth, this figure would probably fit in with early People's Republic era, which began in 1949. May have been done to help promote literacy among the peasants. Can't tell from the pictures if it is wood or a resin casting, though resin has been a popular modern medium.

Best regards,

Bill H.
