Subject:Help to identify Japanese antique jar
Posted By: layth zaker Wed, Sep 14, 2016 IP: 73.135.168.3

Recently I have been in one of the estate sales and I came across an antique small jar it looks to have a not shiny glazed surface but only polished from the inside. I believe it is Japanese . It has a signature as shown in pictures ( I can’t read). When I examined the surface closely I found an amazing art work in this piece. With my magnifier I was able to see that every border line of every geometrical shape of the figures is actually shaped by a fine copper or brass wire every tiny circle every leaf and flower everything is bordered or shaped by this fine copper wire and colored. I do not know how they construct it as the copper lines spread in a beautiful and precised way to give perfection to the piece. I know nothing about such items weather it is a porcelain or pottery who makes it date but it has some writing underneath I hope it will help to identify

It is a Japanese cloisonne enamel jar. Usually the enamel is applied within fine metal (copper or silver) wires affixed to a copper, bronze, or more rarely, a porcelain body. Yours may date to 1860 to 1900.

It's Chinese cloisonne. A picture of the underside may help date it.

Japanese cloisonne on a ceramic body. Very late Edo or Meiji period export ware.
