Posted By: Beth P Sun, Oct 09, 2016 IP: 70.137.205.1

Hello, I know it's a snuff bottle, but just looking to translate the writing on it to better help me date it. Any help is appreciated!

Looks to be the Yichou (乙丑) year, which last came along in 1985 and in sixty-year cycles before then. Your snuff bottle has a rather timeless landscape when it comes to Chinese traditional themes. Unless you can see other signs of antiquity, I'd say the most recent year is a good bet. The Chinese arts & crafts industries were hitting their Post-Gang of Four stride about that time, producing all sorts of old style products, including snuff bottles like this.

Best regards,

Bill H
