I got these at an estate sale a few weeks ago. Along with a few other pieces, in particular the dragon/fish pendant I posted below. The other post didn't get much attention here. On eBay where I posted it for sale it gained a lot of attention. Lots of viewers and bids where it ended up selling for $2750. I still would like to know why the buyers found it so special. These are just a few more pieces. Not sure if these are jade, soapstone, shoushan, etc. I think the circular pendant might be jade. I plan on getting a hanging scale so I can do a density test in the near future. Anything stick out in this bunch? Thanks for any help.

I find it interesting that it sold for that much too, but the fact that you are a private collector who purchased these items from an estate sale (in the US probably) and not one of the Chinese government lackeys who sell hundreds and thousands of the exact same item, helped tremendously in terms of attracting higher bids for the more unique items that are probably untainted by any kind of confiscations from Chinese aristocratic families. Because of the tremendous amount of Chinese antiques for reasonable and rip-off prices, there are a lot of buyers on Ebay currently, and this also helped for these items to sell at a higher price than they might have a few years ago before the Chinese antiques flooded the market.

I am not a porcelain person, but think the two jade pieces are indeed genuine- important when considering any value- though perhaps not the finest stone to begin with. The medallion with a deer on one side perhaps symbolizes a mooncake- very auspicious- and has the proper tones and color for its age. The two fish pendant has some nice variation in the stone so that buyers could perhaps tell it is a natural stone. Two fish, or a pair of fish (shuang yu 双鱼), represent happiness in marriage, very auspicious unless you think about the life history of this jade and where the happy couple whom it might have been given to as a wedding gift are now.

I personally don't find the jade pieces to be all that great of quality or rare- and the colors meh- but perhaps the dishes are more interesting to a serious collector.

Dear Thayne, in what age and on which planet do you live on that makes you make such statements ? : "the Chinese government lackeys who sell hundreds and thousands of the exact same item" and "confiscations from Chinese aristocratic families". How did you come up with such incredible ideas?

What has happened in recent years are the Chinese government's crack-down on corrupt officials and a lot of money, jade, antiques and property were indeed seized from these people. But these people are no aristocrats, and I dont believe that the Chinese government would put these confiscated items up for sale, especially in eBay, either.

Those people who knowingly sell fakes on the internet, at flea marts, at estate sales or at the street corner "antique shops" are simply crooks who may come from China, USA, Europe or any part of the world.
