I bought these from a person who said she purchased these in China in 1986. She was told the brown marks were created by engraving a character into them and that this was done during the cultural revolution to deface / devalue them. Has anyone heard of this?

Is there anything anyone can tell me about these two plates and their marks? They are 5.25 inches across. When might these have been made?

There are two of them (they are part of a larger group and I will post questions about those as well). Thank you so much.
