Subject:Sang de Boeuf vase Said to be Ming

Hello this was bought as Ming and said to be of period from a dealer. Does this look right?

There is crackling although it is fairly fine. A few chips at the base as well.

Your vase has an apocryphal base mark of "Qianlong Nian Zhi" (Made during the Qianlong Reign) and appears to date to the late 19th century, considering the type of glaze runs and chipping evident around its foot. Copper red glazes such as this were much better controlled in the kiln before 1855, when Taiping rebels invaded Jingdezhhen, razed the kilns and killed many potters. As Tony Allen has reported on page 138 of his "Allens Antique Chinese Porcelain -- The Detection of Fakes" (2015) and his earlier "Introduction to Later Chinese Porcelain", Jingdezhen had just a single family of potters firing copper red porcelains by the 1880's. He illustrates a period vase with condition problems similar to the base on yours. It took a generation for Jingdezhen to begin firing these red porcelains to pre-Taiping standards.
