Would appreciate any assistance identifying the origin and signature of the artist.

Thanks in advance!

The caption reads 秀峰成章. The last character means something like 'chapter', so I assume it refers to a Chinese novel or similar about a beautiful mountain group of people.

Seems a bit older based on when it was purchased (1969), but trust your expertise! Thank you!

This is a Japanese painting of a Chinese scene, the artist's name Mikeoz has already transcribed. I don't know the Japanese pronunciation, perhaps one of the Japanese experts will read it for you.

Rat could have it right. This type of scenes rendered in a Chinese manner was fashionable in Japan, late 18th - early 19th century.

In Japanese I should read the signature 秀峰成章画 in the Sino-Japanese manner as 'Shûhô Seishô ga'(painted by Shûhô Seishô). Unfortunately, I don't find further references.

Guy.
