Posted By: Eugenio Tue, Nov 15, 2016 IP: 190.244.91.150

Hi!, I would like to know if this celadon is chinese, Korean or japanese, also the period to which it belongs, is it porcelain or ceramic?
The overlay is silver.

Thaks for helping,

Possibly not celadon but another less vitrified glaze. Metal-clad porcelains, sometimes using low-grade silver alloy, were made in great numbers around the mid-20th century. Since the metal components are easy to stamp out with die tools, these items seem still to be fabricated in and around China today. Yours looks to be a small vase with stylized longevity (shou) characters in metal on the sides and lots of filthy muck added to simulate age. Here's a picture of a cleaner blue & white teapot (about 4" tall before handle) from about the third quarter, 20th century. I think I paid about $60 for it a couple of years ago, thinking I'd give it away as a gift, but it started to grow on me.

Best regards,

Bill H
