Subject:Chinese Scrolls ID

Hi. I'm looking for help. I have a number of scrolls in my collection where I have no idea as to the artist. The first is a landscape.

The 2nd is a of a Rooster.

"Thundering waterfall in a clouded gorge", painted in summer 1994 by someone named Li Ye ้ปŽ้‡Ž.

Prominent here on the foreground boulder is what's called a "large ax cut stroke", eg: https://depts.washington.edu/chinaciv/painting/4pmtxgd9.jpg

Hi Rat. Many thanks. There is a Major General Li Ye (born 1903) who is a noted artist. It may be him.

Hi Again. Apparently there is also a contemporary Chinese artist Li Ye (b1974) which is more likely.
Is there any significance to the 'Hammer Stroke'?

this is a recent picture, not by the general, perhaps by the guy born in 1974. however the quality is rather low I'm afraid, so maybe not by a recorded artist.

nothing is special about the axe cut stroke, it's just a way of modeling rock that became prominent during the Southern Song by painters like Li Tang and Xia Gui. it's quite prominent on your foreground boulder, that's all.

I doubt its the later Li Ye as well, as one of his scrolls recently sold for $71K... I can dream:)

That rooster is just wrong. A real quality
Chinese artist would not make a mistake
of such visual anomalies. What is that
extra large bird claw doing where it makes no sense. Sorry but the pictorial quality is not
up to par with good Chinese art. The description
of trees in the landscape is at best 'lumpy'.

Agree with John R. You can find better works at reasonable prices. The name of the "rooster in exploded view" artist seems to be Zou Wei ้‚นไผŸ

Many thanks for both your help. To be honest I paid very little for them and did not expect them to be worth enough to retire on. I was just interested in what the inscriptions and signature were. All the best and thank you again.
