Subject:Bowl identity of signature and correct identification of bowl
Posted By: pete starbuck Sun, Jan 29, 2017 IP: 82.15.8.37

I have this bowl which is approx. 12" wide.

I think it is a late Qing dynasty bowl? I would be interested in knowing is it famille verte, Famille Rose or is it something else?

Also is the signature late Qing dynasty?

Thanks Pete

This is an example of late 20th century transfer-ware that was decorated at factories in Hong Kong and Macao in the style of rose medallion and mandarin motifs on porcelains painted at workshops in Guangzhou (old Canton) during the 19th and early 20th centuries. The apocryphal mark in the double circle says "Made during the Guangxu Reign of the Great Qing Dynasty".

Period rose medallion, such as the 15-inch, early 3rd quarter 19th century well & tree platter seen below, were much more richly decorated and seldom bore reign marks.

Best regards,

Bill H.
