This is a 'Coraline' type Japanese porcelain vase, usually called 'Sharkskin' for its texture, consisting of tiny beads of glass, which give the vase a satiny look. The base has a monopoly patent number (shown upside down) of the Meiji period (1868-1912) entrepreneur Takeuchi Chubei. Please check out the link, which leads to more information and pictures concerning Takeuchi and his products.

Best regards,

Bill H.

This method of glazing was patented by Takeuchi Chubei in 1889, but after a relatively short period of time due to production difficulties and costs involved its production was stopped.
