Subject:How old is this jade?
Posted By: Corey Fri, Mar 28, 2014 IP: 193.169.154.225 I recently stumbled upon an article from a chinese newspaper with an image of a green jade ornament quite similar to one I own, but made in a yellow jade pebble material. |

Posted By: adam Sat, Mar 29, 2014 Qing dynasty archaistic...18th-19th Century.... (Appears to be a nice jadeite but due to bad colour scale could just as easily be a nice nephrite) |

Posted By: Corey Mon, Mar 31, 2014 I was also thinking Qing dynasty when I bought it, but the one I have seems to have been cleaned of a surface calcification plus the kind of scroll decorations are also seen on jades from the Song and Ming dynasties, so all in all I think it might be older. |

Posted By: Corey Fri, Apr 04, 2014 Was russian jade used in China in the 18th century? |
Subject:Re: How old is this jade?
Posted By: Ernest Wilhelm Sat, Apr 05, 2014 I read that the Russian Jade was in use during the 19th Century |

Posted By: Corey Wed, Apr 09, 2014 It could also be canadian jade which has been exported to China for at least two centuries. But I belive a smiliar kind of jade also comes from Taiwan although I'm not sure. |

Posted By: Corey Mon, Mar 31, 2014 Unfortunately my digital camera is more than ten years old and I have to change batteries for every five good photos I make so I don't really use it. I have a print of the sellers photo that I can scan, but it's probably gonna be a low qualty image. |

Posted By: Super Mon, Mar 31, 2014 To try to attribute any jade carvings based on a single low definition picture is foolhardy |

Posted By: Ernest Wilhelm Sat, Apr 05, 2014 Compare with #1214 in Christie's catalog of 19 September 1013. This one did not sell !! |

Subject:Re: How old is this jade?
Posted By: Corey Tue, Apr 08, 2014 Have you got the physical catalogue? The fact that this lot was the only one that didn't sell is not a good sign. Was the carving identical or just "comparable", and what color was the jade? Also what century was it dated to? |

Posted By: Corey Thu, Apr 10, 2014 The motive is a representation of the ancĂent imagination of a dragon emerging from a cloud, btw. |

Posted By: Corey Sat, Apr 12, 2014 Found lot 1214 at artvalue.com. That one doesn't look similar to the one shown here at all. The one I have and the one here are nearly identical. |
