Subject:Large Punch Bowl Identification
Posted By: Charles Zhang Tue, Apr 15, 2014 IP: 112.64.60.25

I have a large punch bowl measuring 24"DIAMETER x 11.5"tall Chinese Hand Painted Porcelain Rose Canton Punch Bowl with Birds; Pheasants & Magpies,& Butterflies, Flying Fu Bats, Tree Peony, Scrolls, Flowers, Fruit, etc. The base outer rim has a variety of hand painted symbols, scrolls, floral & fruit ornamentals (see photos).
This piece is signed on the bottom "永勝彩瓷廠"& is in excellent vintage condition for its age; having a stain on the inside bottom, a sliver on its rim, as well as a hairline repair on its rim edge.
There is a great amount of gold accenting & highlighting throughout the bowl both inside & out.
My questions pertain to age and decoration style. for example is this famille rose palette? i could see a 19th C. dating but also could see late 20th C.... regarding date, please supply justification for opinion.

Hi Charles,
Your bowl is a late 20th or early 21st century attempt at copying late 19th century Canton famille rose. See attached photo.
The artificially dirtied base and stamped mark in archaic script (possible an attempt at Yongle? 1403 to 1424) plus the dry lifeless painting all point to this conclusion.
It would not surprise me if was made in Singapore or Taiwan, rather than China.
Regards
Tony

Your contemporary bowl is marked as made by the "Yongsheng Ornamented Porcelain Factory", which an online commercial listing indicates to be located in Hong Kong. Please see the URL below, which leads to other discussion and links to postings concerning this company and its markings.

Best regards,
