Subject:Re: Signed Wooden Figurine w/ Ivory Teeth
Posted By: j lewis Tue, Sep 30, 2014 Probably anytime in the 20th Century (or even later). Carvings like this filled the streetside souvenir shops in Hong Kong when I lived there in the '50s. |

Posted By: Bill H Thu, Oct 02, 2014 The character apparently is 石, pronounced "shi". It can be a surname but also means "stone" and is the name of an ancient musical instrument. In my opinion, it would be somewhat unusual for a Chinese artisan to sign just the surname to a work like this, so it may be intended as one of the literal meanings. |
