Subject:Signed Wooden Figurine w/ Ivory Teeth

Hello,

Was just wondering what the mark said, and if anyone knew a possible age and manufacturer of this piece. Also what kind of wood is this? As always all help is appreciated and thanks in advance.

Probably anytime in the 20th Century (or even later). Carvings like this filled the streetside souvenir shops in Hong Kong when I lived there in the '50s.

Thanks. Does anyone know what the mark says? This was part of my grandfathers collection, so that dating seems probable.

The character apparently is 石, pronounced "shi". It can be a surname but also means "stone" and is the name of an ancient musical instrument. In my opinion, it would be somewhat unusual for a Chinese artisan to sign just the surname to a work like this, so it may be intended as one of the literal meanings.
